These statistics demonstrate the significant funding and resource disparities between HBCU athletic departments and non-HBCU athletic departments, which limit HBCUs' ability to compete at the highest levels of college athletics.

01 — Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs)

According to a 2020 study by the Education Trust, HBCUs received an average of $18 million less in athletic department revenue than non-HBCUsIn a 2019 report, HBCUs represented 10% of Division I institutions but only received 1.3% of the total NCAA revenue distribution.In the 2019 fiscal year, the NCAA allocated $8.2 million to support HBCU programs, compared to $204.8 million for non-HBCUs.
